As a Senior Data Engineer, you play a key role in the success of Business Analytics team in Scandinavia. Since we are building a new advanced analytics platform, you will be responsible for creating, expanding and optimizing our dataflow architecture. 

You are an experienced data flow builder, who is self-directed and comfortable with supporting the data needs from multiple teams, systems and products. You will also ensure that the optimal data delivery architecture is consistent across the projects. We work in small highly collaborative agile teams that typically includes Data Scientists, Software Engineers, Analysts and a Product Manager. You and your team will have a clear mission and ownership of an important outcome that supports Trygg Hansa and our customers. 

The position is based in Malmö, but you will work closely with the Business Analytics team in Oslo and Copenhagen, some travelling will be required.

Responsibilities for Senior Data Engineer

  •  Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture around Hadoop and big data
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  •  Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build the Data Infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and ‘big data’ / Hadoop technologies.
  • Build analytics tools to support the data flow.
  •  Work with stakeholders including the Analyst, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist to build Advanced Analytics. 
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Technical Qualifications for Senior Data Engineer

  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  •  Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets, operational data sets.
  •  Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures and metadata.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, kafka, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ Hadoop HDFS data stores.
  • We are looking for a candidate with 2+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role, who has attained a Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field. 
  • Experience with stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc
  •  Knowledge about object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
